The crosses are open and freely drawn, their arms reaching the edges of their panels within rectangular cream borders that have spread and bloomed over the centuries. The longevity elements are abbreviated, abstract renderings of the Chinese character for long life (壽) or related forms, translated into the language of etched beads.
