This bead measures 28.3 mm x 15.8 mm. This piece is an old bead, estimated to be about between 1000 to 1500 years old.
The bead material is high quality natural carnelian.
This piece has pronounced chipping on the body of the bead. I have provided a close-up photo of the damaged area. It was most likely chipped for use in traditional Tibetan medicine. As with all antique dzi beads, weathering marks and minor digs are all part of the beauty.
