Where a double wave usually comes in high-contrast black and cream, this bead stays entirely in a warm register: a honey-tan cream ground with the stripes, waves and lines drawn in dark brown rather than black. The effect is softer and earthier, the two tones close enough to give the design warmth and depth. Up close the brown pattern is crisp; at a glance the bead reads as one warm, quietly aged object.

It follows the classic layout: three panels on each long face, divided by vertical dark brown stripes, each holding a pair of opposing curves meeting at a pinched waist. The waves vary slightly in curve and line weight from panel to panel and face to face, the mark of a freehand maker.

The honey-tan ground has the natural texture and warmth of aged agate. The brown gradually deepens toward the ends, where both tips become a rich, near-solid dark brown. Both drill holes are small, clean and centred. Condition is excellent, with no cracks or chips.

The Double Wave Motif

The double wave — also read as tiger tooth, bow or S-wave — is one of the oldest and most elemental dzi designs. Its opposing curves speak of two forces meeting and holding in balance, and it is worn for protection and steady fortune. The honey and dark brown palette has its own following among collectors who love the warmer side of the dzi spectrum.
