Antique Tibetan Twin Lotus Treasure Vase Dzi Bead — Bloodspot 32.6 mm 200–300 Years (AT-B-101226-TLV)
We never retouch our photos. What you see is exactly what you will receive.
This bead is a compact, broad, flattened barrel, 32.6mm long and 12.4mm at its widest, giving it a wide profile compared with the elongated barrels of larger dzi. The proportion offers a large decorated face relative to its length, ideal as a single pendant or within a multi-bead necklace. The agate ground is cream-white, dense and opaque, with the settled, even surface of long use: smooth, without sharp reflections, and with the fine micro-texture of well-aged agate.
The motif is the twin lotus treasure vase: two lotus-topped treasure vases facing each other across the bead, joined by the flowing curved lines of lotus stems and leaves. At arm's length the large dark and cream shapes read as an abstract flowing pattern; up close the elements resolve, the rounded vase bodies, the lotus blooms opening above them, and the curved stems linking them. The motif lines are a deep warm brown to near-black, with soft edges where they meet the cream ground, softened and settled with age. Both long faces carry the same composition, with natural variations in line weight and curve between them, as expected of hand-worked pieces.
The bloodspots appear across the cream-white ground as scattered micro-speckling, fine rust-brown and warm tan dots spread through the agate, clearly visible in the macro photograph. Bloodspots are natural cinnabar inclusions within the agate itself; they cannot be added to a bead, and collectors have long treasured them. Here they sit in the cream zones, where they show best against the pale ground, adding depth without obscuring the motif. Learn more in our guide to bloodspots in dzi beads.
Condition is excellent for a piece of this age. No cracks. No chips. Both drill holes are small, clean, and well-centred. The motif is fully intact on both faces.
The Twin Lotus Treasure Vase Motif
The treasure vase (bum pa) is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, a vessel holding inexhaustible wealth, long life, prosperity, and spiritual realisation. The lotus (pad ma), rooted in mud and opening in pure light above the water, is the symbol of enlightenment. Paired on one bead, they bring together material abundance and spiritual realisation, and twin compositions are traditionally associated with a doubled blessing.
