Chung Dzi

Chung Dzi beads are prized for their strong protective and wealth building powers. This unique category of Dzi is characterized by distinctive stripes rather than eye motifs. These ancient Tibetan amulets carry their own distinct lineage and protective energies. Each piece in our collection is vetted for authenticity, showing the characteristic weathering marks and soft patina only found in true Chung Dzi beads.

Chung Dzi is often misunderstood caused by improper translation of the Tibetan language.  Some people think the “Chung” in Chung Dzi is a Tibetan word meaning “lesser” or “undesirable.” This is most definitely mistaken as Chung Dzi has always commanded great value. Rather, the “Chung” in Chung Dzi is a Tibetan word meaning “crystal”, which is what the ancient Tibetans called agate and chalcedony.

To further the confusion, ancient Tibetans believed that Dzi with eyes were gifts from the gods. They called these Pure Dzi. Ancient Tibetans grouped all the other Dzi, which were crafted by Man, collectively as Chung Dzi.

For our purposes, we will use the term Chung Dzi to refer to Dzi Beads adorned with striping.
