Tiger Tooth Motif Pair, 21.9×17.2mm & 20.7×17.2mm, brown-ground agate with bloodspots (N-062926-TTBS2)
🔍 Unretouched photos. 📐 Dimensions verified. ✅ Described from direct observation.
These two beads carry the same motif and the same bloodspots, and one is darker than the other in every photo.
Both beads are natural agate in a deep chocolate-brown to warm plum-brown ground, with a frosted cream-to-lavender-grey speckle across the lighter zones that gives each surface a distinctive dusted quality, as if the stone holds a fine, cool mist within the brown. That pale field is what makes the bloodspots visible at ordinary viewing distance without a lens: the orange-red inclusions read against it the way embers read against ash.
Bead A is the rounder of the two, more spherical in profile. Its ground is darker overall: chocolate-brown dominates most faces, with the frosted lavender-grey speckle in the mid-zones. The tiger tooth banding reads as deep sweeping curves across a mostly dark surface.
Bead B is the more elongated of the pair, taller and more ovoid. Its pale cream-white to lavender-grey zones are more prominent, giving the tiger tooth bands higher contrast, and its bloodspots are the most vivid of the pair.
On a spherical or ovoid form, the tiger tooth motif has no fixed orientation; the diagonal bands re-read continuously as the bead is turned. Both beads reward slow handling.
The bloodspots on these beads are among the most densely distributed in our new dzi. The macro photo shows the cream-white zone at close range: a field of vivid orange-red to brick-red pinpoint dots across the whole pale ground, individual and distinct, sitting within the stone just below the surface. These are natural cinnabar (硃砂, zhūshā) inclusions within the agate. No cracks or chips are visible from any of the seven photo angles.
These are new beads, crafted within the last 20 years from natural agate using the traditional dzi crafting technique.
The Tiger Tooth Motif
The tiger tooth (tasso) is one of the foundational dzi motifs, representing the strength, protection, and grounded courage of the tiger, one of the Four Dignities in Tibetan symbolism. The bold diagonal banding is believed to guard the wearer and lend inner strength. On round beads the motif wraps the entire surface, offering its protection from every direction.
