This bead is new, not antique. It was made within roughly the last 20 years using the traditional dzi crafting technique and given an antique-style finish — and we want that clear from the start.

The double wave repeats in a clean, even rhythm: two pointed chevron forms meeting tip to tip along the body, in warm honey-cream on a dark chocolate-brown ground. The lines are crisp and the contrast strong, carrying the visual language of much older dzi without pretending to be old.

Genuine antique dzi gain their softened edges, micro-pitting, drill wear and tonal variation over centuries. This bead was made recently on natural agate to evoke that tradition: the lines are even along its length, the ground colour is uniform, and the surface has a fresh, glossy finish rather than an aged patina. None of this is a flaw — it is simply what a new bead looks like.

The bead is an elongated barrel, gently tapered at both ends, with two double wave repeats along the body. The drill holes are clean and even.

The Double Wave Motif

The wave is associated with continuous, never-ending success — a pattern with no beginning or end as it repeats along the bead. It is sometimes read as tiger tooth, since the two share a similar angular chevron structure. Both are valued regardless of a bead's age, which is why the design is loved on new beads as well as old.
