Double Heaven & Earth Motif Dzi Bead, 49.1×11.7mm, Pitch-Black Agate (V-092723-DHE)

The motif lines on this bead are not plain cream. The stone's natural banding runs through them in warm honey, soft peach, and cool grey-blue without interruption.

This is a vintage Taiwan dzi, crafted in the 1980s from high-quality natural agate using the traditional dzi crafting technique. The ground is pitch-black across all faces in flat-lit white-background photography. What sets this bead apart from other Heaven and Earth pieces is the agate's natural internal banding, visible through both the dark zones and the cream motif zones. The layering in the stone runs through the whole surface, giving the motif lines a warmth and depth that plain cream-white does not have. Warm honey and soft peach shift through the motif alongside a cool grey-blue, and the dark ground itself shows subtle banding beneath its pitch-black surface.

The Double Heaven and Earth composition means both main faces carry the full paired motif: the large oval Heaven circle on one face, the stepped square Earth elements on the other. Because the natural banding shifts as the stone is turned, no two angles show the same colour balance in the motif lines. The surface keeps the high gloss of quality 1980s Taiwan work. Fine surface marks around the middle of the bead are consistent with vintage age, disclosed here as found. No cracks are visible in any of the white-background photos. The drill channel is clean at both ends.

The Double Heaven and Earth Motif

The Heaven and Earth motif pairs the circle (Heaven, 天) with the square (Earth, 地) to express the unity of complementary opposites, the balance of the celestial and the earthly. It is traditionally associated with harmony, the removal of obstacles, and a steady flow of wealth and good fortune. The double composition places two complete Heaven and Earth pairings around the bead, and in business especially the paired motif is regarded as an alignment that draws in prosperity.
