This bead is wider than it is tall — the cross-section visible at the drill end is an oval, not a circle — and the three eyes read differently from every angle that shift produces.

This ancient Tibetan three eye dzi bead measures 51.5×12.4×10.6mm and is estimated at 500 years or older. The ground is a very deep dark brown throughout — owner-described as "dark dark brown, almost black," and confirmed from the white-background photographs. The colour is not uniform across the bead's circumference: the body holds the deepest tone, approaching very dark brown through the upper zones; the end caps warm noticeably to a reddish-brown, which is the natural agate banding of the stone coming through below the treated surface. The cream-white motif lines carry a warm sandy-tan interior fill — not uniformly white, but graduated — consistent with five or more centuries of mineral absorption within the etched grooves.

The three eye motif distributes one eye per panel section across the bead's three primary face zones, separated by vertical stripe dividers. Image 2 shows the first eye in its panel, framed below by a pointed arch element. Image 4 shows the second and third eyes visible together from one rotation — each a cream ring enclosing a dark brown centre, connected by S-curve bracket lines below. Image 3 shows the linking face between eye positions, where the connector elements create a composition of their own. No two rotations of this bead present the same picture.

The oval cross-section — width 12.4mm, height 10.6mm, visible in the direct drill-end shot (image 8) — means the bead has two distinct orientations as it is held or turned. The wider axis and the narrower axis present the motif at different scales and with different surrounding field, which gives this piece more visual variety in hand than a standard round-section barrel.

The surface carries age-consistent texture throughout the dark body zones — the fine granular character of a stone that has been held, worn, and exposed for centuries. The cream motif lines show weathering marks and minor digs consistent with genuine age — part of the bead's authentic character, not damage. No cracks are present anywhere on the piece; I confirm this independently from all seven photographs.

The Three Eye Motif

The three eye dzi is among the most sought configurations in Tibetan Buddhist material culture. The three eyes are associated with the three jewels of Buddhism — the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha — as well as with the three aspects of the awakened mind. In Tibetan tradition, three eye dzi beads are connected to the goddess of wealth and abundance Vaishravana, and they are considered to bring happiness, success, and longevity to the wearer. A bead of this age has passed through Tibetan hands across at least five centuries — carried, worn, inherited, and finally arriving here.
