Bracelet with Antique Tibetan Green Tara Dzi Bead & White Bodhi Root Beads | Bloodspots
Some bracelets are assembled. This one was composed.
The moment you see it, the intention is clear: a piece built around purity, clarity, and the specific luminous quality that only white bodhi root can bring to an antique Tibetan dzi. The result is one of the most visually and spiritually coherent dzi bracelets we have put together โ a bracelet that looks as though it belongs in a monastery, and wears equally well in the world.
The Focal Bead: Antique Green Tara Dzi with Bloodspots
At the center of this bracelet sits a genuine antique Tibetan Green Tara Dzi Bead, estimated at over 200 years old, measuring 37.1mm ร 11.5mm. It carries natural cinnabar bloodspot specks distributed across the agate field, alongside a warm rose-amber inclusion visible in the macro photograph โ a concentrated pool of natural mineral color embedded in the stone itself, present since this agate formed in the earth centuries ago.
Green Tara โ known in Tibetan as เฝฆเพเพฒเฝผเฝฃเผเฝเผ (Sgrol-ma), meaning she who liberates โ is among the most widely venerated figures in Tibetan Buddhism. She is the swift protectress, the mother of all Buddhas, the bodhisattva who acts without hesitation the moment she is called upon. Her name means she who ferries across โ carrying beings over the ocean of suffering, fear, and obstruction to the shore of liberation.
The Green Tara Dzi carries her energy in concentrated physical form. This motif is believed to bring:
- Swift and decisive protection โ Tara acts immediately; danger is addressed before it fully arrives
- Liberation from the eight fears โ lions, elephants, fire, snakes, thieves, water, imprisonment, and evil spirits
- Obstacle removal โ what blocks your path dissolves in her presence
- Success in all endeavors โ her active, forward-moving energy supports completion and achievement
- Compassionate wisdom โ warm, immediate, and personally accessible
- New beginnings and growth โ Green Tara is associated with spring, fertility, and things coming into being
The Bloodspots: Natural Cinnabar Inclusions
The natural cinnabar bloodspot specks on this focal bead are visible in the macro photograph โ scattered across the agate field and concentrated in a warm rose-amber zone within the Tara motif itself. Known in Chinese as ็ก็ (Zhลซshฤ), these inclusions form when mercury and sulfur are present during the agate's geological formation, producing mercuric sulfide โ cinnabar โ embedded permanently in the stone. In its purest form cinnabar is the same mineral historically used to produce vermilion, one of the most sacred pigments in Buddhist art.
The rose-amber tone visible at the heart of the bloodspot zone is a particularly rare feature โ where the cinnabar concentration is dense enough to produce a warm flush of color that blends into the white agate field. This is not a surface mark. It is geology. It has been in this stone for centuries.
In Tibetan collecting tradition, bloodspot inclusions are considered highly auspicious โ signs of a bead with exceptional vitality and accumulated spiritual energy.
The Complement Beads: White Bodhi Root
The 14 white bodhi root beads at 10mm ร 8mm are the heart of what makes this bracelet singular.
Bodhi root โ the root of the Ficus religiosa, the sacred fig tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment โ carries one of the deepest associations in all of Buddhist material culture. In the Tibetan and broader Buddhist tradition, bodhi root beads are used for malas and prayer beads precisely because of this connection: they are considered naturally purifying, conducive to meditation, and aligned with the energy of awakening itself.
White bodhi root carries additional resonance. Its pure ivory color is associated with clarity, truth, and the unclouded mind โ qualities that align directly with Tara's liberating function. In this bracelet, the white bodhi root does not merely complement the dark antique dzi. It speaks the same spiritual language in a different register.
The gold-tone spacer beads between each bodhi root bead add rhythm and warmth to the composition, preventing the all-white field from becoming flat and giving the eye a gentle cadence as it moves around the bracelet.
The Bracelet as a Complete Object
Black agate grounds. Bodhi root purifies. These are two fundamentally different energetic intentions โ and this bracelet was built around the second. It is a piece for practitioners, meditators, and anyone drawn to the devotional, luminous quality of sacred white materials paired with an ancient Tibetan amulet.
It is also, quite simply, one of the most beautiful dzi bracelets we have made.
