The first thing you notice about this bead is the colour. Not the pattern — the ground itself. Where most dzi carry a warm chocolate brown or a layered dark-and-cream composition, this bead is built on a near-black charcoal base — deep, uniform, almost glassy in its density. The white motif elements emerge from that darkness with exceptional clarity and contrast. It is a bead that reads immediately, from distance, without ambiguity.

What it carries is a complete Heaven Gate and Earth Gate composition. On Face A, the Heaven Gate presents as a large, boldly drawn oval ring — the circular portal through which celestial wisdom and clarity are understood to descend. On Face B, the Earth Gate answers it: two arching bracket forms, one above and one below, defining the bounded earthly field that receives what heaven sends. Across the profiles, the two systems connect — arcs and brackets wrapping the full circumference in a continuous symbolic dialogue between the realms. This is not a two-sided bead in any simple sense. It is a single integrated cosmological statement.

Now look at Images 7 and 8. At macro distance, something else becomes visible across the white zones that the full bead shots only hint at. The white ring of the Heaven Gate, and the white bracket field of the Earth Gate, both carry scattered micro-speckling throughout — small dark points distributed across the surface. At the centre of the bracket face (Image 7) and at the interior of the ring (Image 8), there is a concentrated round dot: a bloodspot node, denser than the surrounding scatter. These are natural mineral inclusions embedded in the agate itself, inseparable from the stone. They are not on the surface. They cannot be cleaned away. They have been there since this bead was formed.

Bloodspot dzi are highly regarded across Tibetan, Chinese, and Southeast Asian collecting traditions — the inclusions are understood as a sign of exceptional vitality and accumulated auspicious energy within the stone. The bead's form is compact and rounded — broad in the centre, tapering at both ends. Both drill holes are fully intact, clearly visible in Images 5 and 6, each surrounded by the white ring of the motif wrapping to the tip. The surface polish is smooth and even. The patina is seamless. There are no cracks and no repairs. The condition for a bead of this age is excellent.
