The eyes on this bead are not round — each one is a diamond, the cream-white outer ring drawn into four sharp points, with the dark pupil sitting inside it at a different angle from the ring that frames it.

This antique dzi carries the Six Eye Diamond Spear motif — a combination of six diamond-form eyes distributed across the faces of the bead, with flanking cream spear or chevron elements filling the space between them. On each face two diamond eyes appear in the main register, separated and connected by a vertical cream line; below them, the spear elements sweep outward in paired cream arcs that give the lower field its directional, pointed character. The composition is crisp and structured — the diamond eyes and the spear lines forming a precise geometric architecture across the pitch-black ground.

The ground is pitch-black through the central body, confirmed from the flat-lit white-background photographs. The cream motif lines are bright and well-defined against this dark field — high contrast and clean, the lines retaining strong resolution at three to five centuries of age. The end caps at both drill tips transition from the pitch-black body into a warm dark brown — a two-zone colour structure in which the bead's central field is the deepest tone and the tips carry a warmer character. Both drill openings are small and clean, set within the warm brown dome of each end cap.

The surface carries age-consistent micro-texture across the dark body zones — a fine, slightly matte quality that distinguishes a well-aged antique piece from newer production. The cream zones show the same fine surface character. Fine age-consistent surface marks are present. No chips or cracks observed from available photos.

The Six Eye Diamond Spear Motif

Six eyes in the Tibetan dzi tradition are associated with the six realms of existence — the cosmological model through which sentient beings cycle through rebirth — and with the protection and guidance of those who traverse all six realms without obstruction. The six eye dzi is said to bring balance and harmony across all domains of life, and to support the practitioner in accumulating merit across all realms simultaneously. The diamond spear element adds a quality of penetrating clarity: the spear or arrow form represents the capacity to cut through obstacles and reach the mark with precision. Combined, the Six Eye Diamond Spear motif unites comprehensive awareness — the six-realm vision — with the directed, penetrating force of the spear.
