The width stops you first.

The two other Tasso beads in this collection — At-052526-TaBS at 12.3mm diameter and At-092924-TaBS2 at 11.2mm diameter — are elongated barrels, their Tasso motifs reading as tooth-forms or opposing chevrons on a narrow face. This bead is 14.0mm in diameter. At 29.4mm long, the proportions approach a disc rather than a cylinder. Pick it up and it sits differently in the hand — wider, rounder, with more surface presented at every angle. The Tasso wave on this bead has more ground to travel across, and it uses all of it: a single broad sweeping form that curves from one boundary stripe to the other, occupying the full width of the face in one continuous movement.

That is the compositional difference. On the narrower beads the Tasso reads as opposing points, as teeth facing each other across a dark gap. On this bead, with the broader canvas, the motif resolves as a wave — one unbroken cream line arcing across deep chocolate-brown agate, its movement unhurried, its form generous.

The ground colour on this bead is its own category. Not the pitch black of At-092924-TaBS2, not the warm honey-brown of At-052526-TaBS — this is a deep, dense chocolate-brown with a warmth that reads differently under different light. In direct light it is almost dark enough to read as black; at an angle the brown depth becomes visible. The cream Tasso field occupies a large proportion of each face, which means the contrast between ground and motif reads as broad bands rather than fine lines — bold, immediate, graphic.

The bloodspots on this bead are surface-visible without magnification. In the hero photograph, rust-orange and vermilion inclusions are clearly present within the cream field — not micro-dots requiring macro photography to confirm, but formations large enough to read at standard shooting distance. Bloodspots — known in Chinese as 硃砂 (zhūshā) — form when mercury and sulfur are present during the agate's original geological formation. Mercuric sulfide crystallises within the stone as cinnabar, reading as vermilion-to-rust-orange coloration embedded in the agate itself. They cannot be added, removed, or faked. Their presence on this bead is confirmation of the material's geological authenticity.

The body carries natural weathering marks and minor digs consistent with a bead estimated to be 300 to 500 years old. Both drill holes are intact. No cracks. The agate surface has the gentle micro-texture of genuinely aged stone — present across all faces, visible in close photography, not dramatic.

The Tasso Motif carries the meaning of strength and courage across all its interpretations — Tiger Tooth, Horse Tooth, Wave. It is the motif of forward movement, of force channelled into form. On this bead, with the broader body and the generous wave, that meaning is expressed at its most expansive scale in the Tasso family.
