Three Eye Variant, 39.7×14.4mm, Warm Brown & Cream Agate (At-072326-3EVBS)

The three eyes on this bead do not present themselves cleanly. They emerge from a ground that is already warm and complex, a mottled field of taupe, brown, and cream where the motif lines and the stone's natural banding work together rather than in sharp contrast. Turn the bead slowly and the eyes appear one or two at a time, each a soft cream oval ring with a warm brown interior, before the composition shifts back into the flowing wavy lines between them.

This is a three eye dzi in the variant style: the eyes are softer and more irregular than the crisp concentric circles of the classic three eye, and the dividing elements are replaced by broad wavy cream lines moving across the ground in an organic pattern. Two eyes appear together on the main face; the third sits on the next face, showing as an arc at the edge from the two-eye angle and coming into full view as the bead turns. The faces between the eyes carry the same flowing wave lines, so the whole bead reads as one continuous composition.

The ground is a warm taupe-brown to grey-beige, mottled and naturally varied across the body. The cream motif lines are warm rather than stark white. One drill end is cream-white; the other shows a warm orange tone, the agate's own internal colour.

Condition is good for a piece of this age. No cracks or chips are visible. The surface carries age-consistent micro-texture under macro.

The Three Eye Motif

The three eye dzi is one of the foundational forms of the Tibetan dzi tradition, associated with happiness, success, and longevity, and with the Three Jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Three eyes are also read as past, present, and future held together in one field of awareness.
