On most dzi beads, the cream is the line and the dark ground is the field. On this bead, that relationship is reversed. The cream zones on the paired-eye faces are so wide and so full that the dark ground reads as markings within cream, rather than cream motifs on a dark ground. The two Dragon eyes on the hero face do not sit in a sea of dark brown — they float in a broad cream landscape, their dark pupils and surrounding dark rings suspended within an expanse of warm, ivory-cream agate. The figure-8 that the two eyes form together is not a thin line but a wide, generous field.
This inversion of visual weight is what immediately separates this bead from its companion Six Eye Naga piece At-092524-6EN. That bead has a deeper, darker ground and thinner cream lines, giving it a more graphic, high-contrast character. This bead is warmer, creamier, and more expansive in its visual presentation. Holding the two together makes the difference immediately apparent — same motif, different ground, different scale of cream, different personality.
The body scale faces on this bead are equally distinctive. The hexagonal or diamond scale form here is elongated horizontally — a wide, flat diamond shape that stretches across the full width of the bead body between the flanking stripes. The single eye centred within it has a warm brown pupil that sits quietly in the dark zone. The flanking dark panels on either side are themselves framed by the generous cream stripes, creating a structured, almost architectural pattern across the body-scale faces. Fine micro-pitting is visible across the dark ground zones on close inspection — consistent with genuine age of two to four centuries.
The Six Eye Naga / Dragon Eye dzi is understood in Tibetan tradition to embody the Dragon directly — not to represent it symbolically, but to hold its power within the stone. The Dragon (Naga) is associated with water, the earth's deep wealth, protection, and the power of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. A Naga dzi carried for two to four centuries has been a vessel of that understanding for generations of wearers before arriving here.
The six eyes are counted as: two paired eyes per face-eye face (two faces) equals four, plus one single eye per body-scale face (two faces) equals two — six total, none of them visible from any single angle. The bead requires rotation to encounter its full count, which is part of how it was understood to work: the power is distributed, not concentrated in one place.
The bead measures 48.8mm × 11.5mm. Material is high-quality natural agate. Condition is excellent — no cracks. Estimated age 200 to 400 years. Natural weathering marks consistent with age are present.
