The eyes on the primary face are fully formed: a large, bold, closed concentric ring system, the outer oval clean and unbroken, the inner ring confident, the dark pupil centred and clear. At 38.6mm × 12.5mm, the body is shorter and proportionally wider than the other two eye beads in this collection — a stockier torpedo — and the eye fills more of the face because of it. The motif presses toward the viewer.
Flanking the eye on the right: a set of vertical stripes, evenly spaced, reading as the rhythmic frame that anchors the eye composition. On the reverse face and the second eye face, the second eye appears — same full-ring construction, same confident presentation, positioned within its own stripe framework. Two eyes. Both closed. Both watching.
What distinguishes this specific bead within the two eye family is the presence of two medicine digs — small deliberate excavations made by previous owners in the agate surface, typically to use the powdered stone in medicinal preparations. Medicine digs are among the clearest physical markers of a bead that was genuinely used within Tibetan cultural practice rather than acquired purely as an object of trade. They confirm provenance of use. On this bead they are visible, documented, and in the photographs exactly as they exist — unretouched, unaltered, unpolished away. They are part of the bead's authenticated history.
The ground is near-black — a deep, consistent dark field that gives the cream motif lines their sharp definition. End caps visible in the angled photographs are smooth dark brown agate with well-centred drill holes. The surface carries natural weathering marks consistent with a bead of this age — not dramatic, not obtrusive, but present as quiet confirmation of genuine time.
The Two Eye Motif is rooted in centuries of Tibetan dzi tradition as a symbol of relational harmony — between partners, between colleagues, between families. It is the motif most consistently associated with the alignment of two people's energies, worn or gifted where relationship is the primary intention. Among the three two eye beads in this collection, this is the most classically resolved: both eyes fully formed, the composition symmetrical, the meaning unambiguous.
This bead is estimated to be 200 or more years old. Material is high-quality natural agate. Condition is excellent — no cracks. Two medicine digs present; natural weathering marks throughout. Both drill holes intact.
