Antique Two Eye Dzi Bead with Medicine Digs, 38.6mm × 12.5mm, Near-Black Agate (At-010726-2E3)

The eye on the main face is fully formed: a large, bold, closed concentric ring — clean outer oval, confident inner ring, dark pupil centred and clear. At 38.6mm × 12.5mm the body is a stocky torpedo, so the eye fills more of the face and seems to press toward you.

To one side, a set of evenly spaced vertical stripes frames the eye. On the opposite face the second eye appears, built the same way within its own stripe frame. Two eyes, both closed, both watching.

What sets this bead apart is its two medicine digs — small, deliberate hollows made by earlier owners to take powdered stone for traditional medicine. They show a bead that was genuinely used and trusted in Tibetan life, not merely traded, and they appear in the photographs exactly as they are.

The ground is a deep, even near-black that gives the cream lines sharp definition. The end caps are smooth dark brown agate with well-centred drill holes. Natural weathering marks are present but quiet.

The Two Eye Motif

The Two Eye dzi (二眼天珠) is a long-standing symbol of harmony between people — partners, colleagues and families — worn or given where relationships come first. With both eyes fully formed and the composition symmetrical, this is a classic, direct expression of the motif.
