The hook on this bead has no fixed orientation — from one face it reads as a single looping S-curve, and from the face ninety degrees around it opens into two sweeping arms that reach toward each other without quite meeting. Neither reading is the complete picture; the motif only makes full sense once the bead has been turned in the hand.

This is a newly crafted Taiwan dzi bead with a money hook motif — one of the more kinetically satisfying dzi forms, its interlocking white curves flowing continuously across the very dark brown ground without the hard boundaries that define eye or stripe-based motifs. The cream-white motif lines are smooth and full, drawn with a generous sweep that makes the composition feel organic rather than geometric. The ground is a very deep, rich dark brown — dark enough to read as almost black in some lighting, but confirming its brown character clearly in natural light and in the white-background photos here.

At 36.8×11.6mm, this is a compact, well-balanced barrel with smooth rounded drill ends. Both end caps are warm brown agate with a high gloss finish consistent with the rest of the body. Minor surface marks are present on one face, visible in the photos and disclosed here; they are shallow and do not affect the integrity of the bead.

Three macro photographs document cinnabar bloodspot inclusions clearly. Image 9 in particular shows the distribution across the broad cream-white zone: dense, individually distinct reddish-orange micro-dots covering the full extent of the white band in a cream-zone focused scattered pattern. Images 7 and 8 show the inclusions at closer range in the motif-boundary and end-cap shoulder zones. These are naturally occurring cinnabar (硃砂/zhusha, mercuric sulfide) inclusions — valued in Tibetan tradition as a sign of the bead's genuine vitality and accumulated energetic character.

The Money Hook Motif

The money hook — sometimes called the ruyi hook or wealth hook dzi — carries the symbolism of magnetic attraction: the capacity to draw resources, opportunities, and good fortune toward the wearer rather than having to pursue them by force. The flowing hook form echoes the ancient ruyi sceptre, an emblem of wish-fulfilment and the authority of those whose aspirations manifest without obstruction. In Tibetan dzi tradition, the money hook is understood to activate the wealth energy latent in a person's circumstance, opening channels that allow prosperity to flow inward and accumulate naturally over time.
