Tiger Tooth Motif Pair, 21.9×17.2mm & 20.7×17.2mm, brown-ground agate with bloodspots (N-062926-TTBS2)

These two beads carry the same motif and the same bloodspots — and one is darker than the other in every photo.

Both beads are formed from natural agate in a deep chocolate-brown to warm plum-brown ground, with a frosted, cream-to-lavender-grey speckle across the lighter zones that gives each surface a distinctive dusted quality — as if the stone holds a fine, cool mist within the brown. That quality is what makes the bloodspots visible from ordinary viewing distances without a lens: the orange-red inclusions read against the pale speckled field the way embers read against ash.

Bead A is the rounder of the two — more spherical in profile, wider relative to its height. Its ground is darker overall: the chocolate-brown dominates across most faces, with the frosted lavender-grey speckle concentrated in the mid-zones. The tiger tooth banding reads as deep sweeping curves across a predominantly dark surface.

Bead B is the more elongated of the pair — visibly taller and more ovoid, with a fuller barrel-like profile. Its pale cream-white to lavender-grey ground zones are more prominent, giving the tiger tooth bands higher contrast. The diagonal banding reads more crisply defined against the lighter field, and the bloodspots in these pale zones are the most vivid of the pair.

On a spherical or ovoid form, the tiger tooth motif has no fixed orientation. The diagonal bands rotate and re-read continuously as the bead is turned — what appears as a downward chevron from one angle becomes a rising sweep from another. Both beads reward slow handling.

The bloodspots on these beads are among the most densely distributed in the shop's new dzi collection. The macro photo documents the cream-white zone of the surface at close range: a pervasive field of vivid orange-red to brick-red pinpoint inclusions, distributed across the entire pale ground — individual and distinct, not smeared — sitting within and just below the stone surface. These are cinnabar (硃砂/zhusha, mercuric sulfide) inclusions, occurring naturally within the agate. The distribution pattern is pervasive macro-constellation across both beads' cream-ground zones. No cracks or chips are present — this is my own finding from all seven photo angles.

The Tiger Tooth Motif

The tiger tooth (tasso) is one of the foundational dzi motifs, representing the strength, protection, and grounded courage of the tiger — one of the Four Dignities in Tibetan symbolism. The bold diagonal banding of the tiger tooth form is believed to guard the wearer and confer inner fortitude. On round beads, the motif wraps the entire surface without interruption, expressing the protective intention from every direction simultaneously.
