This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. It carries real age — over four decades — even though it postdates the antique and ancient pieces elsewhere in this collection. The ground is a warm cream-white, and it is the dominant surface here rather than a backdrop: the dark brown of the motif sits within it, not the other way around. That dark brown is genuinely brown, not black — a warm, chocolate-toned brown consistent across the etched squares, circles, and connecting lines when viewed under flat white-background lighting.

The bead is a classic barrel form, drilled through the centre, with the motif repeating in banded sections along its length. Each "eye" — a small cream circle centred inside a dark brown square — sits framed by the stepped connecting lines that give the piece its structure.
