One face of this bead centres on a single eye, boxed in by an angular shield-shaped border — but turn it, and that composition disappears entirely, replaced by two eyes linked by loose, looping cream lines that read almost like a pair of parentheses closing around each other.

This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. The ground shows a confirmed two-zone structure: warm brown at both drilled ends, deepening to a much darker, near-black tone through the central body, verified independently from the relevant white-background photos for each zone. Against this, the cream-white banding and eye rings sit in strong contrast throughout.

The bead is a classic barrel form, drilled through the centre. The single-eye face pairs its central motif with plain vertical stripe bands and an angular shield border beneath the eye; the two-eye face instead uses continuous curved lines that connect the two circles in a loose, looping pattern with no straight stripes at all. Because the two faces read so differently, this bead rewards handling and rotation rather than a single fixed view. The warm brown translucent gloss visible at both drilled ends supports natural agate as the material.
