At standard viewing distance, this bead reads as a bold, high-contrast piece — a black ground carrying a continuous white curved-line motif that loops and hooks its way around the bead's circumference. Look closer at the macro photos, though, and the white zones aren't empty: they carry their own scatter of fine reddish-brown pinpoints, cinnabar caught inside the cream field itself.

This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. The ground is a true black, confirmed consistently across all white-background rotation photos. Against it, the motif lines are rendered in bright white rather than the warmer cream-white seen on many other pieces in this collection — a notably cool, high-contrast pairing.

The bead is a barrel form, drilled through the centre. Turn it, and the white line resolves into a Treasure Vase shape: a rounded vessel body sitting on a narrow stem base, the classic form associated with this motif. The curved connecting lines that run between vase repeats give the whole design a flowing, continuous quality rather than a segmented one. The warm brown translucent gloss visible at the drilled end supports natural agate as the material.

No cracks are visible anywhere on this bead in these photos. Under macro magnification (documented in the close-up photos), individual reddish-brown to orange-brown cinnabar inclusions — 硃砂 (zhūshā), mercuric sulfide — are visible scattered within the white cream zones surrounding the vase motif, concentrated rather than evenly spread across the whole surface.
