Look closely at the surface of this bead under magnification, and it isn't smooth — small circular pits and texture marks are scattered across the dark ground, consistent with genuine surface weathering rather than any applied colour or flaw in the carving itself.

This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. The ground is a deep dark brown, confirmed consistently across all six white-background rotation photos, with the cream-white eye rings and connecting stripes in high, even contrast throughout.

The bead is a classic barrel form, drilled through the centre. One face centres a single eye framed by plain vertical stripes at both ends; turning the bead reveals a second face where the connecting line breaks from the stripe pattern entirely, tracing a stepped, right-angled path instead. As with other two-faced pieces in this collection, this bead rewards handling and rotation rather than a single fixed view. The translucent brown gloss visible at the drilled end supports natural agate as the material.

No cracks are visible anywhere on this bead in these photos. Under magnification, the surface shows fine natural pitting consistent with genuine age — a texture marker rather than damage. There are no bloodspots on this piece.
