The eye on this bead sits inside a tight cross-hatch of plain stripes — but turn it, and that grid gives way entirely to a single stepped line that runs the length of the piece with no eye in sight.

This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. The ground moves from a rich brown to a deeper, near-black tone through the body, verified consistently across all six white-background rotation photos. The cream-white eye ring and connecting stripes hold strong, even contrast against it throughout.

The bead is a classic barrel form, drilled through the centre. One face centres a single eye framed by tightly spaced plain stripes at both ends; turning the bead reveals a face where the stripes give way to a single stepped, right-angled line with no eye motif at all. As with other two-faced pieces in this collection, this bead rewards handling and rotation rather than a single fixed view. The warm brown translucent gloss visible at the drilled end supports natural agate as the material.
