There is a small hollow in the cream area of this bead, and it is the first thing we want you to know.

Midway along one side face, within the cream lines, is a minor natural surface pit — not a chip or a crack, but a natural inclusion in the agate that has opened at the surface. It is shown in the close-up (Image 7). The rest of the bead is intact.

The bead carries the same four eye variant motif as its companion, N-083126-4EV: four almond-shaped eyes in two pairs, with pointed ends rather than round rings, and bracket-and-bar structures on the side faces. Each face reads distinctly.

The ground is a dark warm brown, a shade deeper than its companion, with the same honey-brown tone at both glossy ends. The cream lines are bold and high-contrast, the surface high-gloss, and the bead an elongated fusiform at 56.8mm, slightly shorter and slimmer than its companion.

This is a new bead, made within roughly the last 20 years using the traditional dzi crafting technique. Apart from the small pit, there are no cracks or chips. No bloodspots.

The Four Eye Motif

The Four Eye dzi (四眼天珠) is associated with the four directions and the four immeasurables — loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity — and with the four enlightened activities of pacifying, enriching, magnetising and subjugating. It is worn for protection in every direction. The almond-eye variant carries the same meaning in a softer, more organic form.
