Four Eye Motif, 40.1×11.4mm, dark brown and pitch-black agate (N-082825-4E)

This bead is two colours, not one — dark brown at both ends, pitch-black through the centre, with a single eye and flowing line repeating four times around the turn.
This is a new Taiwan-crafted dzi bead in natural agate, carrying the Four Eye motif in cream-white lines against a two-zone ground. The end caps, visible clearly in Images 6 and 7, are a warm dark brown — confirmed from the white-background photographs. Moving in from each end, the ground deepens into a flat, dense pitch-black through the central body of the bead — also confirmed from the white-background photographs. This transition gives the bead a layered, almost gradient quality from end to end, distinct from a single uniform ground colour.
The Four Eye motif is built from a single eye ring paired with a flowing S-curve line, repeating four times around the full circumference of the bead — one eye and curve combination revealed with each quarter-turn. Images 2 through 5 document four such rotations, each showing the same eye-and-curve unit in a slightly different configuration as the line sweeps differently around the bead's surface. Held and turned continuously in the hand, the four units link into a single unbroken flowing pattern circling the bead.
The form is a standard barrel with gently tapered ends. The drill holes are visible in Images 6 and 7, set within the dark brown end zones with standard, clean drilling. A minor divot is present on one end, as previously disclosed — this is a small surface mark rather than a structural flaw. No cracks are present. This is my own observation from all six photo angles, alongside the disclosure carried forward from prior documentation of this piece.
The Four Eye Motif
The four eye dzi is believed to remove obstacles and hindrances from the wearer's path, smoothing the way toward success and easing the achievement of goals. Four is associated in Tibetan numerology with stability and the four cardinal directions, lending this motif a grounding, clearing quality distinct from the wealth-focused symbolism of other eye-count dzi. The flowing line connecting each eye suggests the continuous removal of obstacles along a path, rather than a single static blessing.
