On a round bead the tiger tooth has no fixed face — and on this one, the rose-red ground makes the dark bands look different at every turn.

The agate is an unusual warm rose-red to dusty terracotta, rather than the grey, cream or brown of most tiger tooth dzi — somewhere between soft brick-red and muted rose, chalky-warm in the lighter areas and deepening to plum-brown where the bands gather. The high-gloss polish deepens both, so the contrast shifts with the light.

The tiger tooth is formed by deep chocolate to plum-brown diagonal bands wrapping the surface. From one face they read as clean chevrons; turn the bead and they become flowing curves; from the drill axis they circle the crown in concentric arcs. No two views are the same.

The form is a gently irregular ovoid, slightly taller than wide, with a natural, pebble-like silhouette. The drilling is clean. Minor natural inclusions sit within the stone. No cracks or chips.

This is a new bead, made within roughly the last 20 years using the traditional dzi crafting technique.

The Tiger Tooth Motif

The tiger tooth (tasso) is one of the foundational dzi motifs, standing for the tiger's protective strength and courage. In Tibetan tradition the tiger is one of the Four Dignities, a symbol of confidence and grounded, wakeful power. The bold banding is worn to guard the wearer and bring inner strength.
