This bead reads differently from every angle — and one of those readings is a second eye you almost miss.

From Face A the composition is broad: a wide blue-grey oval dome fills the centre, framed by cream stripes at the shoulders and darker warm brown ends. The eye here is architectural, a wide convex form the banding wraps around rather than draws. Turn the bead a quarter and the same stone shows something else: the bands converge in a strong V at the centre of the face, reading as a mountain or chevron rather than an eye. Then look straight at a drill end: the hole sits within a small warm brown oval ringed by a cream band — a second natural eye that only appears from the tip. Three readings, one stone.

The blue-grey is a cool, muted slate, calm and consistent through the body. The warm dark brown ends provide contrast, and narrow cream and white bands circle the shoulders. It is a restrained palette that rewards a longer look rather than making an instant impact.

At 50.5mm × 15.8mm it is broader and rounder than many natural barrels of similar length, sitting wide in the hand with gently tapering ends. There is no etching or applied motif of any kind — the whole composition is the stone as found. Full gloss throughout; no chips or cracks.

The One Eye Motif

In Tibetan tradition the One Eye dzi carries the meaning of the all-seeing eye of wisdom — the ability to see clearly, without obstruction. When the eye forms naturally from the stone's banding, it is regarded as inherent rather than applied: something the stone brought from the earth. A second natural eye at the drill end adds an unusual dimension to an already uncommon type.
