Naturally-Formed One Eye Motif, 50.3×20.5mm, Blue-Grey & Olive Banded Agate (N-N-071426-1E4)

The eye on this bead is not white. It is a pale olive-grey, almost khaki, set within layers of cool blue-grey banding — a palette unlike anything else in our natural range.

This is a new natural banded agate dzi: no etching, no applied motif. The eye was formed entirely by the stone's own mineral banding, then shaped and drilled. The pale olive-grey zone sits at the centre of the main face in a diamond orientation, wider than it is tall, a light field framed by the cooler bands around it.

The colours are exceptional. Cool blue-grey dominates the body — genuinely blue in the photographs, shifting between steel-blue and mid-grey with the light. Pale olive-grey appears in the lighter bands, including the eye, and deeper charcoal lines run across the body as accents. One end is a warm grey-brown; the other shows fine concentric micro-banding circling the drill hole. Every turn of the bead shows a new arrangement of these natural zones.

At 50.3mm × 20.5mm this is one of the widest natural barrel pieces in the collection, close in diameter to our 70.7mm natural one eye but more compact in length. The polish is high-gloss and even. No chips or cracks seen.

The One Eye Motif

In Tibetan tradition the single eye is the eye of wisdom — the eye that sees reality clearly, without distortion. It is associated with Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the bodhisattva of compassion, whose gaze reaches every being, and with the inner eye of insight that perceives what the ordinary senses cannot. On a natural bead, where no hand placed the motif, the eye is a sign discovered rather than made.
