Antique Four Eye & Tiger Tooth Tibetan Dzi Bead, 46.4mm × 11.5mm (At-082525-4ETT)
Antique Four Eye & Tiger Tooth Tibetan Dzi Bead, 46.4mm × 11.5mm (At-082525-4ETT)
This bead carries two motifs, and they do not share a face. The Four Eye Motif occupies two opposing faces; the Tiger Tooth Motif occupies the other two. Rotate the bead ninety degrees and the eyes disappear entirely, replaced by the sharp, angular diamond-point forms of the tiger tooth. Rotate again and the eyes return. The alternation is total and deliberate — each motif given its own dedicated surface, neither competing with nor diluting the other. At 46.4mm, the bead is long enough that each face presents its motif fully, without compression.
Look closely at the eye faces. The two eyes on face A sit deeper in tone — the concentric rings read against a ground that has darkened with age, the warm brown pupils sitting quiet and centred within their cream circles. The eyes on face B, photographed from a slightly different angle and with different light catching the surface, read lighter — the cream more prominent, the agate ground showing more of its natural warmth. Same motif, same bead, two distinct visual characters depending on which face and which light you are reading. This is what genuine aged natural agate does. It does not perform uniformly under a camera. It behaves the way an object that has existed for two to four centuries behaves.
The Tiger Tooth faces are the counterpoint. Where the eyes are circular, concentric, and meditative, the tiger tooth forms are angular, outward-pointing, and assertive. Each panel presents two large pointed diamond forms — some traditions read these as teeth, others as arrows, others as the compressed wave. All three readings carry protective associations. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Four Eye Motif is understood to remove obstacles and hindrances, enabling the path toward success to open. The Tiger Tooth Motif brings strength and courage to its wearer. Together on one bead, these are not just two motifs — they are two qualities understood to work in complementary tension: the eye that clears the path, and the tooth that gives you the strength to walk it.
This is a rare motif combination. A Four Eye bead is already meaningful on its own; most collectors encounter it as a single-motif piece. A Tiger Tooth bead likewise. Finding both on the same bead in clear, well-executed form at antique age is uncommon. The bead is estimated to be 200 to 400 years old, material is high-quality natural agate, and condition is excellent — no cracks. Fine weathering marks and minor contact digs are present and are an authentic record of the bead's age, not defects.
