Four motifs on a single bead is not common. Most dzi in the collector market carry one or two. When a bead integrates four distinct symbolic elements into a unified composition — each with its own tradition, its own meaning, its own visual language — it occupies a different category entirely. This is that kind of bead.

The Eye-in-Eye sits at the centre of Face A. It is not a standard eye motif. Where a conventional dzi eye presents a single oval ring around a dark pupil, the Eye-in-Eye presents a nested structure: an outer ring, then an inner ring, then the pupil at the core — three concentric layers that give the eye an almost hypnotic depth. In the photographs you can see exactly how this reads on the bead: the cream white rings, slightly warmed by the amber toning that has developed in the agate over centuries, enclosing a dark centre that pulls focus. This is an eye that watches from multiple planes simultaneously.

Wrapping the body — across the top profile, the bottom profile, and the full reverse face — are the Tiger Tooth and Heaven Gate elements. The tiger tooth pattern appears as flowing, repeating wave forms in cream on the deep chocolate-brown ground. The heaven gate contributes the bracket structure at the field boundaries, framing the composition and establishing the cosmological context: the celestial opening through which clarity and divine guidance descend. The star motif integrates into this field as a small but deliberate marker of celestial orientation — the bead as a navigational instrument between the human and the heavenly.

This is an antique dzi bead estimated at 200 to 500 years old, measuring 52.9mm × 13.0mm. The form is unusual and immediately identifiable — distinctly flat and wide in cross-section, more tablet than cylinder, with a long elegant taper at both ends. This is not a bead that disappears when strung. It presents itself. The ridge line running the full length of each face carries a warm copper-bronze patina that catches light differently from the matte agate ground — a surface quality that accumulates only with genuine age and wear.

Both drill holes are intact. The amber-orange cap visible at one end in Image 6 is the natural agate colour of the bead's tip — a warm, glassy tone that contrasts with the deep brown of the main body and signals the natural banding within the original stone. In Image 5, the drill hole at the opposite tip is clearly visible in the narrowing taper. Nothing is cracked. Nothing is repaired. The condition is excellent for a bead of this age.
