Three Eye Motif Dzi Bead, 57.9×13.3mm, Near-Black Ground with Warm Banding (N-062426-3E2)

On this bead, the cream lines don't stand alone — every one of them is bordered by warm rust-brown, and that warmth is as much a part of the motif as the etching itself.

Look at any face on this bead and the pattern repeats: a very deep dark ground, then a band of warm rust-brown to honey-brown agate colour where the natural stone bleeds through on either side of the etching, then the cream-to-sandy-tan of the etched line itself. Three tones, every time, wrapping every stripe, every eye ring, every wave element. The cream never appears without that warm halo framing it — the agate's own colour doing what no etching process applied it. On the sibling listing N-062426-3E, that warmth appeared only at certain edges. Here it is present on every motif line across all four faces, making the bead read as warm even though the ground underneath is among the darkest in the new dzi range.

The three eyes split the same way as N-062426-3E: one eye on Face A, two on Face C, with wave connector faces between them. But the connector faces on this bead carry their own character — Face B runs a broad undulating wave band that reads cream over a warm rust-brown underlayer, the wave appearing to float above the agate's own warmth rather than cutting clean to the ground. Face D carries a second connector element — a lower-amplitude angular form below partial arc tops from the flanking eye faces, making it the most visually layered face of the four.

The eye rings themselves have a granular, chalky edge to the cream etching — slightly rougher in texture than the cleaner rings on N-062426-3E, giving each eye a softly broken outer boundary that adds to the bead's warm, textured overall character. A minor surface speck is visible below the right eye in Image 4, disclosed here per our standard. No cracks, chips, or structural damage observed in any of the six photographs. This is an independent finding.

The form is an elongated fusiform with an asymmetric taper — the end visible in Image 6 comes to a more abrupt, narrower point than the broader, more gradual taper of the opposite end in Image 7. Both drill holes are small and centrally placed within their very dark, near-black tips.

The Three Eye Motif

The Three Eye dzi (三眼天珠) is linked in Tibetan tradition to the wealth deity Kubera and to the triad of past, present, and future simultaneously held in sight. Three eyes watch in three temporal directions at once — not just guarding space, but guarding time. The motif is among the most sought after in the dzi tradition for associations with material abundance and prosperity, while also carrying the resonance of the Three Jewels — the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha — that anchor the entire Buddhist path. On a ground as deep and saturated as this one, the three-eye motif reads with particular weight: each eye emerging from the dark as something earned rather than given.
