New Two Eye Motif Dzi Bead, 58.4×13.7mm, Cream-Ground Agate (N-062126-2E2)

Turn this bead over and the second eye doesn't finish what the first one started.

This bead is newly crafted within the last twenty years. It is NOT an antique. The Two Eye motif sits on opposite faces of an elongated, sharply tapered fusiform body — at 58.4mm one of the longer pieces in the New category — and the two faces read differently in character. One carries a tighter, more fully resolved concentric ring with a clear inner pupil; the opposite face opens into a broader, more gestural sweep where the C-curve reads almost as a wave before closing back into the eye. The same motif family, but the two executions don't mirror each other.

The colour relationship is the inverse of most two-eye pieces in this collection: the ground is a warm sandy-cream and honey-tan, with the motif lines, bar dividers, and tapered end tips in deep chocolate-brown. Light is the field; dark is the marking — a reversal from the dark-ground, light-motif construction of the shop's antique Two Eye pieces, and distinct from this session's other New Two Eye (N-062126-2E), which carries a warm dark brown ground with pale grey-white motif lines.

Surface is matte throughout, with fine granular texture visible in the lighter zones. Both ends taper sharply to dark tips, each with a single small drill hole. No cracks or chips are visible in any of the six photographs.

The Two Eye Motif

In Tibetan dzi tradition, the Two Eye motif is associated with harmony in close relationships — between partners, between colleagues, between any two presences that share a space. It is one of the most personal eye-count motifs, its pairing read as a balance between two forces rather than a multiplication of the same.
