One face of this bead holds a single eye inside an angular shield border — turn it, and that gives way to two eyes joined by plain curved arcs, with no straight stripes or shield shapes in sight.

This is a genuine vintage dzi bead, hand-carved and etched in Taiwan during the 1980s. The ground is a consistent dark brown throughout — not two-zone, not black — verified across the full length of the bead under flat white-background lighting. Against it, the cream-white banding and eye rings hold strong, even contrast from end to end.

The bead is a classic barrel form, drilled through the centre. The single-eye face pairs its centred motif with an angular shield border and plain vertical stripes; the two-eye face instead uses smooth curved arcs connecting the pair with no straight lines at all. As with the closely related ThE-001 piece in this collection, the two faces of this bead offer genuinely different readings, so it rewards handling and rotation rather than a single fixed view. The warm brown translucent gloss visible at the drilled end supports natural agate as the material.

No cracks are visible anywhere on this bead in these photos. The surface is clean throughout, with no bloodspots present on this piece.

The Three Eye Motif

The Three Eye motif is traditionally associated with happiness, success, and longevity for its wearer. On this piece, as on its companion ThE-001, the motif's expression shifts entirely from face to face — a single framed eye on one side, a paired-eye composition on the other — giving the bead two distinct characters depending on which face is turned toward the viewer.
