New Twelve Eye Motif Dzi Bead With Bloodspots (N-062126-12E-1)
📷 We never retouch our photos. What you see is exactly what you will receive.
You don't need a loupe to see the bloodspots on this one. They're visible in the ground itself, scattered as fine reddish-brown flecks even at normal photographic distance.
Twelve closed ring eyes run the length of this bead, each pair divided by a vertical bar, rendered in a cool, pale blue-grey-white against a dark brown ground with reddish speckling threaded throughout, plainly visible without magnification in several photographs. The form is an elongated barrel, tapering gently toward both ends.
Macro photography shows natural cinnabar inclusions across two distinct zones within a single frame: a warm golden-brown granular region and a brighter white-blue zone, with red-orange dot clusters in both. The clusters are small and dispersed. The macro frame also shows a fine, fibrous white structure catching the light in the brighter zone, distinct in texture from the cinnabar and consistent with a natural crystalline vein within the agate.
Both ends are drilled with a single, clean opening; no chipping or cracking is visible in any of the photographs. The surface is glossy and consistent across all faces.
This bead is new, crafted within the last 20 years from natural agate using the traditional dzi crafting technique.
The Twelve Eye Motif
In Tibetan dzi tradition, the Twelve Eye motif is associated with authority, power, and influence. The number twelve carries particular weight across Chinese symbolic tradition, from the twelve ornaments of an emperor's robe to the twelve months of the calendar. A bead carrying twelve eyes is read as a concentrated statement of these themes. Read more in The Twelve Eye Dzi Bead: Symbolism and Significance.
Bloodspots
The cinnabar (硃砂, zhūshā) on this bead is unusually easy to see: fine reddish-brown speckling is visible across the dark ground even without magnification. Macro photographs show red-orange dot clusters across two distinct zones, golden-brown and bright white-blue, within the same frame. Cinnabar is a natural inclusion within the agate; it cannot be added to a bead, and it occurs in new beads as well as old ones. Learn more in our guide to bloodspots in dzi beads.
