Five Eye & Lightning Garuda Healing Dzi, 35.8×13.0mm, Pitch-Black Agate with Cinnabar (At-062026-5ELT)

We never retouch our photos. What you see is exactly what you will receive.

On one face, five eyes link together into a single unbroken meander. On the opposite face, that patience gives way to a single jagged strike of lightning, and the contrast between the two is the whole point of this bead.

This is a Garuda healing dzi, and the two-motif structure is deliberate. Face A carries five fully closed ring eyes in a 2-2-1 cluster: two across the top, two flanking the centre and one anchoring the base, all joined by a continuous cream-white line that loops from eye to eye without a break. Face B leaves the loop behind entirely. A single bold zigzag cuts diagonally across the dark ground in three sharp turns, a direct strike from one edge of the face to the other. This is the lightning that gives the motif its second name.

The ground is a true pitch-black, dense and glossy, with no lighter undertone on either face. Cream-white vertical stripes run along both edges of each face, framing the composition like a border. At both ends the drill openings show a warm honey-brown to chocolate-brown interior, rimmed by soft bluish-white to pale grey banding where the black body meets the lighter end caps.

The bead is a compact, gently tapered barrel, widest at the centre and narrowing smoothly to each drilled tip. The black zones hold a confident gloss, while the cream meander has a slightly softer finish. No cracks, chips or medicine digs are visible in any of the six photographs. Two small natural pinhead marks show in the macro photos within the cream zone near the eye cluster; they are minor surface texture, not damage.

The Garuda Healing Dzi Motif

In Tibetan tradition the Garuda (khyung, 大鵬金翅鳥) is the great bird said to descend with the speed of lightning to defend against harm. On this bead the five-eye cluster is read as the Garuda's watchful aspect and the lightning bolt as the swiftness of his protection: vigilance paired with decisive action. Garuda healing dzi have traditionally been worn or kept close during illness and recovery as a focus for protective, healing intention. Read more in our guide to Garuda dzi bead meaning.

Bloodspots

The macro photos show beautifully coloured natural cinnabar (硃砂, zhūshā) in two places: rich rust-red to burnt-orange bloodspots through the cream meander around the eye cluster, and a group of deep red-brown dots in the cream band closest to one drill opening. The colour is clear and vivid against the cream. Bloodspots are natural inclusions in the agate and are not proof of age. Learn more in our bloodspots guide.
