Every face of this bead is in motion — the chevrons do not stop, do not pause, and do not repeat the same geometry twice as the bead turns.

The Double Tiger Tooth motif on this bead runs as a continuous interlocking chevron structure across all four faces, but each rotation presents a slightly different geometry: the V-forms shift from upward-pointing to downward-pointing to mirrored, so the bead reads differently at every 90 degrees. This is not a bead where the motif sits on one or two faces and the rest is ground. The pattern owns the entire surface.

The primary face (Image 3) shows the classic double-row composition most clearly — two continuous bands of interlocking cream-white chevrons set against a deep dark charcoal-brown ground, running the full 29.1mm length. The ground colour on this bead is distinctly cool-toned: a deep charcoal-brown that sits between warm chocolate-brown and true black, confirmed across all lighting conditions in the photography. It gives the cream motif lines an unusually high contrast — they read bright and sharp against the depth of the ground. The opposite face (Image 4) and the two side faces (Images 5 and 3 reverse) show the same chevron bands but with shifted alignment, so the tooth forms interlock at different angles. The macro images (Images 1 and 2) capture the surface in detail: the agate has aged genuinely, with fine micro-pitting and weathering marks visible along the central spine ridge — physical evidence of three to five centuries of handling and exposure.

The body form is a compact barrel-spindle — 29.1mm in length at 11.6mm diameter — wider at the centre and tapering cleanly to both ends. The end caps (Images 6 and 7) are warm terracotta-russet, a distinctly warmer tone than the charcoal-brown body, with clean drill holes and smooth domed profiles. This two-tone agate character — cool dark body, warm russet ends — is inherent to the stone, not applied.

The bloodspots on this bead are cinnabar (硃砂, zhūshā) — mercuric sulfide occurring as a natural geological inclusion within the agate matrix. In the macro photographs (Images 1 and 2), the cinnabar appears as warm vermilion to rust-orange clustered dots and patches sitting within the cream-white motif zones — the inclusions are embedded in the agate, not on its surface. A distinct rust-orange cinnabar patch is visible at mid-body in Image 6. The original listing notes the bloodspot coloration as a perfect vermilion, which the macro photography confirms. Cinnabar inclusions of this clarity and colour saturation are regarded by Tibetan collectors as markers of authenticity and auspicious potency — the mineral was present in the stone before the etching was applied, making it inseparable from the bead's identity.

This bead sits alongside other tiger tooth variants in the collection but occupies a distinct position. The three completed Tasso/Tiger Tooth beads — At-052526-TaBS (29.9mm, single tooth, motif defined by agate movement), At-092924-TaBS2 (28.7mm, pitch-black, macro-constellation dots) and At-093024-TaBS3 (29.4mm × 14.0mm, wide disc form, surface bloodspots) — all carry single-tooth or Tasso compositions. This is the only Double Tiger Tooth configuration in the collection, and its deep charcoal-brown ground sets it apart from the warm dark-brown and pitch-black grounds of those three beads. The At-053126-3DETT (27.5mm, terracotta-red agate, diamond eye precursor motif) offers the closest bloodspot comparison but is a completely different motif and material colour.

The Double Tiger Tooth Motif

The Tiger Tooth motif (虎牙紋) is one of the oldest continuous motif traditions in dzi bead craft. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition it is associated with strength, courage, and protection — the tiger's power channelled into the form of the bead itself. The double configuration — two interlocking rows of chevrons rather than one — amplifies this symbolic function, creating a motif that fully encloses the bead's body and leaves no face unguarded. Some collectors and scholars interpret the Tiger Tooth and Wave motifs as closely related or interchangeable; both carry associations with ceaseless forward motion and unbroken continuity, qualities reflected in the chevron's refusal to resolve into a closed form.
