Every face of this bead is in motion — the chevrons never stop, and never repeat the same geometry as the bead turns.

The Double Tiger Tooth runs as a continuous interlocking chevron structure around all four faces, but each quarter turn shows a slightly different geometry: the V-forms shift from pointing up to pointing down to mirrored. The pattern owns the whole surface.

The main face (Image 3) shows the classic double row most clearly — two continuous bands of interlocking cream-white chevrons on a deep charcoal-brown ground along the full 29.1mm. The ground is distinctly cool, between warm chocolate and true black, which makes the cream lines unusually bright and sharp. The other faces show the same bands with shifted alignment, the teeth meeting at different angles. The close-ups (Images 1 and 2) show fine micro-pitting and weathering along the central ridge — genuine signs of long handling.

The body is a compact barrel-spindle, 29.1mm × 11.6mm, widest at the centre and tapering cleanly. The end caps (Images 6 and 7) are a warm terracotta-russet with clean drill holes and smooth domed profiles — a natural two-tone character, cool dark body with warm russet ends.

Bloodspots

The close-ups show natural cinnabar (朱砂) inclusions within the agate: warm vermilion to rust-orange dots and patches within the cream motif areas, plus a distinct rust-orange patch at mid-body (Image 6). The colour is a beautiful, saturated vermilion. Bloodspots are part of the stone itself and add greatly to a bead's appeal, though they are not in themselves proof of age. See our bloodspots guide.

The Double Tiger Tooth Motif

The Tiger Tooth (虎牙) is one of the oldest continuous traditions in dzi design, associated with strength, courage and protection. The double form — two interlocking rows rather than one — wraps the whole bead, leaving no side unguarded. Many collectors read tiger tooth and wave as closely related, both carrying the meaning of ceaseless forward motion and unbroken continuity.
