On this bead the motif lines and the ground are nearly the same colour — and that near-match is the whole story.

Most new dzi are built on contrast: dark ground, lighter motif. This Six Eye works differently. The ground is a medium warm brown, lighter and warmer than our other new dzi, and the lines are a warm honey-gold to sandy-tan that sits close to it in tone. The result is warm, unified and almost monochrome. All six eyes are readable, but they emerge quietly from the stone rather than cutting across it.

Its sibling, the New Six Eye Dzi N-062226-6E, has a very deep brown ground and off-white lines for strong contrast. That bead states its design boldly; this one asks you to look a little closer.

There are three open C-ring eyes on each face, linked by flowing curves, with vertical bar dividers along the length. The low contrast softens the edges of the rings, but the count is clear from every straight-on view. Images 2–5 show the four main faces, each a slightly different reading of the design.

The surface is semi-gloss to gloss, glossiest at the ends, where Images 6 and 7 show warm brown tips with small, centred drill holes. The taper is asymmetric: one end closes more sharply, the other is broader and more gradual. The bead measures 58.2mm × 13.4mm. No cracks or chips; only minor surface marks typical of new agate.

This is a new bead, made within roughly the last 20 years using the traditional dzi crafting technique.

The Six Eye Motif

The Six Eye dzi (六眼天珠) is associated with the six-syllable mantra Om Mani Padme Hum and with Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Each eye is linked with one syllable and one of the six realms of existence. It is traditionally worn for wellbeing, protection from misfortune and support on the path beyond suffering.
