Of the three new Nine Eye dzi in this collection, this one carries the lightest ground and the softest read — and that difference changes everything about how the motif lands.

This is the third new Nine Eye dzi bead in the collection, and it sits in a distinct visual position from its two siblings. Where N-062226-9E carries a deep cool dark grey-black ground and N-062226-9E2 a very deep dark warm brown, this piece — N-062226-9E3 — has a medium-dark warm brown ground that is noticeably lighter than either. The warm brown of the agate itself comes through more strongly here, with natural banding variation visible across the body in all three flat-axis photographs, the ground shifting subtly from a slightly richer brown in some zones to a warmer, lighter honey-brown in others. This is not a uniform ground — it is a ground that shows its stone.

The motif lines are a soft warm sandy-cream — lower in contrast against this lighter ground than the cream-on-deep-brown of N-062226-9E2 or the silver-grey-on-grey-black of N-062226-9E, giving the nine eye composition a quieter, more muted overall character. The honey-brown warmth of the ground bleeds gently into the etched zones throughout, so that the eye interiors and connecting curve areas carry a warm brownish tinge rather than a clean dark pupil. The motif is fully legible — nine open C-ring eyes connected by flowing curved lines, three per face in straight-on view, divided by vertical bar elements — but it reads softly rather than sharply.

The surface is matte throughout — the most uniformly matte of the three new nine eye pieces. Neither the ground nor the etched motif zones carry gloss. This gives the bead a different tactile presence from its siblings: quieter and more absorbed-looking, the light sitting on the surface rather than reflecting from it.

The form is an elongated fusiform, 58.6mm in length and 12.9mm in diameter — the longest of the three new nine eye pieces — with a notably even, symmetrical taper that closes gradually and equally at both ends. Image 5 shows one end tapering gently to a rounded dark brown tip with a small centred drill hole; Image 6 shows the other end closing at the same even rate, with its own centred drill hole. There is no pronounced asymmetry here — this is the most classically spindle-shaped of the three.

The three flat-axis faces (Images 2, 3, and 4) each present the composition with slight variations in how the curve lines read and how the ground warmth distributes across the motif zones. No two faces are identical. Several minor surface marks consistent with new agate production are visible at close examination in Images 3 and 4, none structural.

This bead is newly crafted within the last twenty years. It is not an antique or ancient bead. No cracks or chips are visible in any photograph.

The Nine Eye Motif

The Nine Eye motif (九眼天珠) holds the highest position among all dzi eye counts in Tibetan tradition — a complete and comprehensive enumeration of the protective eye across all nine zones of auspicious influence. Associated with the accumulation of merit, the attraction of wealth and good fortune, and the protection of the wearer across all domains of life, the Nine Eye dzi is among the most widely sought-after pieces in the collection. On this bead the nine eyes are rendered in a continuous composition that wraps the full body, ensuring the full count is present regardless of which face is visible.
