Two Eye Motif, 34.3×11.8mm, Pitch-Black & Cream-Beige Agate, Ancient (Ac-073026-2E2)
🪨 Genuine agate. Unretouched photos. What you see is what ships.
The two eyes on this bead are not identical to each other. On one face the eye ring curves inward in a spiral — the inner line turning rather than closing cleanly, giving the eye a swirling, coiled quality that reads differently from every angle. On the opposite face the second eye is more composed: a clean outer ring, a clear inner ring, a steady dark pupil at the centre. The same motif, held differently on each face.
This is the companion piece to Ac-073026-2E — a bead of the same age, the same material, and the same two-eye motif, sharing the same pitch-black ground and the same age-crystallised surface character. Where they differ is in detail. The companion carries matching warm tan end caps at both drill tips; this bead's two ends diverge — a warm medium-brown cap at one tip, a cooler cream-beige cap at the other, the agate's internal colour resolving differently at each end of the same stone. The connector faces on this bead carry the same bold cream zigzag wave lines seen on the companion — broad, unhurried strokes moving across the dark ground between the eye positions — but the cream lines here are heavier in weight, the white zones wider against the black.
The dark body zones — confirmed as pitch-black from the flat-lit white-background photographs — carry the same pervasive fine granular surface crystallisation as its companion: the matte mineral texture that develops within agate over centuries, and that serves as one of the most reliable markers of genuine ancient age. Both drill holes are small and clean.
The Two Eye (གཞུང་མིག) Motif
The two-eye dzi is among the most foundational forms in the Tibetan dzi tradition, its two circles of awareness understood as the paired qualities of wisdom and compassion — the two eyes through which enlightened mind perceives and responds to the world. In Tibetan Buddhist and Bön contexts the two eyes are associated with balance, harmonious relationship, and the protection of the wearer across the paired dimensions of inner and outer life. A two-eye dzi of genuine ancient age — at five to eight centuries old — carries not only the symbolic weight of the motif but the accumulated energy of the centuries it has passed through.
