New Four Eye Variant Dzi Bead with Star — Dark Brown & Black Agate 57.8 mm (N-102526-4EVS)
New Four Eye Variant Dzi Bead with Star — Dark Brown & Black Agate 57.8 mm (N-102526-4EVS)
We never retouch our photos. What you see is exactly what you will receive.
This is a new dzi bead, not an antique. It measures 57.8 mm along its long axis and 13.2 mm at its widest point — a long, full-size barrel with gently tapered ends, the classic proportion for a large dzi worn alone on a cord or set as the centrepiece of a mala or bracelet. The ground is dark brown agate that reads close to black across much of the barrel, especially in the photographs, and opens into a lighter, more visibly brown tone in places, as in image 2. At the tips the stone turns translucent, and in the angled end views (images 5 and 6) both ends glow a warm honey-amber where the light passes through the agate.
The surface is smooth and evenly polished to a bright, high gloss, with clean, sharply defined cream-white motif lines. This crisp finish and uniform shine are what you expect from new production, and the bead is presented as exactly that: a well-made modern dzi, sold as new.
The motif is a four eye variant. Four cream-white eyes, each a ring around a dark centre, are distributed around the barrel rather than lined up on a single face, so the bead shows a different arrangement from every side. On one face a single eye sits at the centre between a forked, Y-shaped line and a diagonal divider (image 1); on another, two eyes sit on opposite edges of the barrel, one low near one end and one high in a curved frame near the other (image 3); and on the fourth face two eyes appear side by side, one in a framed panel and one a smaller oval (image 4). Curving and diagonal cream lines run between the eyes, dividing the surface into panels, and two cream bands close the design at each end.
What sets this bead apart from a standard four eye is the star: a single small, solid cream dot near the end bands, shown clearly in image 2. It is a small element, but it is deliberate, and it gives this variant its name.
Both drill holes are centred in the tips and are clean and functional. The bead is in excellent new condition.
The Four Eye Variant with Star
In the dzi tradition the number of eyes carries meaning, and four eyes are associated with the four directions and the four elements — earth, water, fire and air — held in balance. Four eye dzi are traditionally worn for stability, for clearing obstacles from one's path, and for steady progress in work and in life, with the four eyes looking outward in every direction at once. On this bead the eyes are literally spread around the whole circumference, so that wherever the bead is turned, an eye faces outward. The star adds a further note: a single bright point set apart from the eyes, commonly read as a guiding light and a sign of good fortune and clear direction.

Every piece at Ancient Dzi Shop is photographed unretouched and described exactly as found. What you see is what you will receive.
Photos: Unretouched images of the exact bead listed. Six product photographs: four white-background views of the barrel rotated to show all four eyes, the star dot (image 2) and the dividing lines between them (images 1–4); and two angled end views showing both drill holes and the translucent honey-amber agate at each tip (images 5 and 6). The ground photographs close to black in places; in hand it reads as a very dark brown.
