Nine Eye Dzi Bead with Bloodspots, 60.4×14.5mm, Pitch-Black Agate, Blue-Grey Etching (N-082326-9EBS2)

🌟 Authentic Tibetan Dzi Bead | Unretouched Photos | New Production

On most nine eye dzi, the motif lines are cream or white. On this one, they are not.

The etching on this bead is a cool blue-grey with a faint green cast — a colour that sits between seafoam and slate, and reads differently under every light. Against the pitch-black ground it creates a cooler, more restrained contrast than the warm cream-on-black of most new production dzi, and it is consistent across all nine eye rings, all connecting bars, and both end-cap stripes from drill hole to drill hole. There is no warm tone here at all. The ground is pitch-black, the lines are cool, and the combination is its own palette.

Nine eyes run the length of the barrel in an unbroken sequence, three visible on each face across the rotations, each one a clean circle of blue-grey etching enclosing a dark centre, connected by horizontal bars and the line structure that runs between them. The bead is fusiform — widest at the centre, tapering to both glossy pitch-black drill ends — at 60.4mm, it sits at the same generous length as its companion piece in this session. The surface is uniformly high-gloss throughout.

Under macro, the blue-grey etching carries scattered individual cinnabar inclusions — bright brick-red to orange-red pinpoints distributed across the cream-etched zones in a cream-zone focused scattered pattern. They are clearly present against the cool ground of the etching, their warm colour making them visible immediately at close range. The dark ground zones show natural agate banding lines — fine sub-surface striations consistent with the stone's layered structure, not surface cracks — disclosed here for full transparency. No chips are visible in any photo. I independently confirm no chips and no cracks at the surface.

Cinnabar Bloodspots (硃砂 / Zhusha)

Macro photography documents cinnabar inclusions throughout the blue-grey etched zones of this bead. Cinnabar — mercuric sulfide (硃砂, zhusha) — appears as individual brick-red to orange-red pinpoints scattered across the eye rings and connecting bar elements. The distribution pattern is cream-zone focused scattered — present consistently across the etching field, with the warm red coloration of each inclusion standing in clear contrast against the cool blue-grey ground of the etching itself. The dark agate ground zones between the motif lines show minimal inclusions; the concentration is in the etched cream zones throughout.

The Nine Eye Motif

The nine eye dzi (九眼天珠) is one of the most powerful and sought-after forms in the Tibetan dzi tradition. Nine eyes correspond to nine sources of merit and benefit — the accumulation of good fortune, the removal of obstacles, the enhancement of wisdom, longevity, and protection from negative forces — and are associated with Dzambhala, the deity of wealth and abundance. The nine eye bead is considered among the most auspicious of all dzi forms. The presence of cinnabar bloodspot inclusions — naturally occurring mercuric sulfide within the stone — is regarded in the Tibetan tradition as a mark of heightened protective power.
