Neither eye on this bead closes — and that open construction is visible on both faces.
Most two-eye dzi carry a pair of concentric rings: outer circle, inner pupil, done. Both eyes on this bead are open C-rings — the outer frame sweeps around but does not complete its circuit. Face A carries an eye where the C-ring opens toward the right, with a warm peach-brown interior where the pupil sits. Face C carries an eye where the outer ring hooks open at the top right, again leaving a gap in the circuit. Two eyes, two faces, and on neither of them does the motif fully close. The construction gives both eyes a spiralling, dynamic quality that a clean closed ring doesn't carry — each eye reads as movement arrested mid-turn rather than as a completed form.
The ground is pitch-black — confirmed from white-background photography across all four flat-lit shots. This is among the most deeply saturated black grounds in the new dzi range, with no warm undertone and no visible banding. Against it, the motif lines read as a warm peach-cream — not white, not cool cream, but a distinctly peachy-warm tone that carries through every eye ring, stripe, and connector line on all four faces. That warmth is itself informative: scattered cinnabar inclusions throughout the bead have stained the cream etching zones, giving them the peachy-orange cast visible throughout the photographs. The bloodspots are not prominent enough to resolve as individual dots in the available images, but their presence is confirmed by the owner and visible as the pervasive warm colouration of the motif field.
The surface is high-gloss throughout — the glossiest ground in today's session's new dzi pieces, with a mirror-smooth black that catches a silver-white highlight line along the bead's crown in Images 2 and 4. The form is a compact fusiform — shorter and proportionally wider than most of the other new dzi pieces written today, at 37.7×13.0mm. The connector faces (Images 3 and 5) carry angular stepped and diagonal elements rather than wave forms, giving this bead's negative faces a more architectural, geometric character.
No cracks, chips, or surface damage observed in any of the six photographs. This is an independent finding.
The Two Eye Motif
The Two Eye dzi (雙眼天珠) is associated in Tibetan tradition with harmony between paired presences — partners, colleagues, any two forces that must find balance within a shared space. It is one of the most personal of the eye-count motifs, its pairing read as complementarity rather than multiplication. The two-eye dzi has been used in household and workplace devotional practice as a support for mutual understanding and cooperative relationship, making it among the most practically oriented of the protective dzi forms.
