Pair of Round Treasure Vase Dzi, 20.1×19.0mm & 20.5×18.5mm, Dark Brown Agate (V-073026-TVP2)

🪨 Genuine agate. Unretouched photos. What you see is what ships.

The treasure vase on a round bead has no fixed position — hold these beads by the drill axis and the vase reads clearly, the neck and rim rising toward the drill pole, the swelling body below it, the scrollwork curling out from the sides. Rotate either bead a quarter turn and the composition dissolves into its own decorative elements, the cream lines reading as abstract curves before the next face brings the vase back into recognition. Every angle is a different part of the same motif.

The two beads in this pair share the same motif, the same 1980s Taiwan origin, and the same dark brown ground — but they are not identical in tone. The left bead carries a deep warm chocolate-brown ground, rich and even, with bright cream-white motif lines that read with strong contrast against it. The right bead's dark zones carry a slightly warmer reddish-brown character — the same dark brown family, a distinct shade within it — and its cream lines resolve with a touch more warmth, reading as cream rather than the left bead's cooler white. Side by side the difference is visible and the pairing is all the stronger for it: two expressions of the same motif in two closely related but distinct tones.

The treasure vase composition wraps the full circumference of each bead. From the primary vase face the motif is legible in its full form — neck, rim, vase body, base register, and flanking scrollwork all present and well-defined. From the opposite side the scrollwork elements dominate, the vase body curves reading as flowing abstract forms before the rotation brings the complete composition back into view. Both drill holes are small and clean. No cracks or chips observed on either bead.

The Treasure Vase (བུམ་པ, Bumpa) Motif

The treasure vase is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Tibetan Buddhism — the Ashtamangala — and on dzi beads it represents inexhaustible wealth, abundance, and the fulfilment of wishes. The vase is understood as containing all that is desired: material prosperity, health, longevity, and spiritual attainment. It is said never to empty — whatever is drawn from it is immediately replenished. On a round bead, the treasure vase wraps the full sphere, its abundance extending in all directions simultaneously rather than facing a single way. These are beads made for wearing: crafted in Taiwan in the 1980s in the living tradition of Tibetan dzi production, carrying the full symbolic weight of the motif in a form intended for daily use.
