This bead puts two eyes on every face. Turn it any way and a pair of eyes looks back at you — each set in a cream almond frame pointed at both ends, the two eyes of each pair flanking a central vertical divider, the design repeating without a break around the bead. There is no connecting face and no plain zone: eight eyes, arranged so the bead is never turned away from you.

The almond frames are its defining feature. Instead of the simple concentric ring of most eye dzi, each eye sits in a pointed oval that lengthens the form and gives it a more striking, watchful character. The small round pupils sit within cream inner rings. Between the pairs, cream X-shaped connectors cross the dark ground, joining the whole circumference into one continuous network.

The ground is a deep, warm dark brown rather than pitch-black, which softens the contrast with the cream lines and gives the bead a settled, aged look. Both end caps are a warm tan-beige, the agate's natural colour at the tips. The dark areas have a fine semi-matte texture consistent with its age. No cracks or chips.

The Eight Eye Motif

Eight is one of the most significant numbers in Tibetan Buddhism. The eight eyes correspond to the Eight Auspicious Symbols — the parasol of protection, the golden fish of abundance, the treasure vase of fulfilment, the lotus of purity, the conch of proclamation, the endless knot of interdependence, the victory banner of accomplishment and the Dharma wheel of teaching — and an Eight Eye dzi is worn to receive the blessing of all eight at once. It is also associated with staying on the right path, the eight eyes watching over the wearer from every direction.
