New Double Heaven & Earth Dzi Bead With Bloodspots (N-062126-HE)

The motif on this bead isn't ivory and it isn't white. It's a cool, powdery blue-grey.

Set against a deep dark brown ground, the closed ring eye and rectangular gate-bar dividers have an almost frosted quality, the pale motif lines carrying a distinct cool undertone rather than the warm cream seen on most new dzi. The form is an elongated, gently tapered barrel, long and slender, with both ends drawn down to a narrower point.

The motif combines a closed circular eye (Heaven) with vertical bar dividers framing rectangular gate sections (Earth): the Double Heaven and Earth. Macro photography of the lighter zone shows something unusually vivid: dense clusters of saturated orange-red cinnabar across both a warm tan-brown area and a brighter white field within the same frame. Scattered among the cinnabar are small dark grey-black granular spots, a separate natural mineral inclusion, visible in the same frame.

Both ends are drilled with a single central opening; neither shows chipping, cracking, or visible damage. The surface is glossy and consistent across all faces.

This bead is new, crafted within the last 20 years from natural agate using the traditional dzi crafting technique.

The Heaven and Earth Motif

In Tibetan dzi tradition, the Heaven and Earth motif represents balance between complementary forces, often described in terms like yin and yang. It is associated with removing obstacles and cultivating fortune, and has long been a favourite among those seeking prosperity in business, the closed circle and structured gate together suggesting a complete, ordered world. Bloodspots

The cinnabar (硃砂, zhūshā) on this bead is vivid. Macro photographs show dense, saturated orange-red clusters across two distinct zones within a single frame, a warm tan-brown area and a brighter white area. The colour is close to true red-orange, with the clusters forming dense, flower-like blooms rather than scattered single dots.
