Every face of this bead carries a different arrangement, and not one of them repeats on the opposite side.
The Guru Rinpoche's Ritual Paraphernalia motif is one of the most compositionally complex in the dzi tradition, and this bead renders it as a continuous, non-repeating composition that shifts with every degree of rotation. Against a very deep dark warm brown ground, the etched motif lines read as a warm sandy-cream to off-white with a slightly granular texture. The contrast is strong and consistent throughout.
The face views (Images 2, 3 and 4) each present a different section of the composition. A central ring or dharma wheel anchors the middle of each face, flanked on both sides by scroll-form ritual implements, dorje (thunderbolt) and phurba (ritual dagger) forms that curve and branch outward in flowing lines. Horizontal stripe dividers run above and below, framing the implements between them. No two faces are identical: the scroll forms shift in orientation and curvature, the implements change direction, and the relationship between the central ring and its flanking elements varies. It is a single continuous symbolic composition wrapped around the full bead.
The angled views in Images 5 and 6 show the motif continuing around the body from each end, with the rounded tip and small centred drill hole at one end (Image 5) and the broader end with its centred drill hole (Image 6). The form is an elongated fusiform, 57.6mm long and 13.5mm in diameter, with a pronounced asymmetric taper. The surface is semi-matte in the etched zones with slightly more gloss on the dark ground.
This bead is newly crafted within the last twenty years from natural agate using the traditional dzi crafting technique. It is not an antique or ancient bead. No cracks or chips are visible in any photograph. A small surface pit is visible near one end in Image 2. Both drill holes are intact and cleanly centred.

The Guru Rinpoche's Ritual Paraphernalia Motif
Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) is the figure most closely associated with bringing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet, and the ritual implements associated with him are among the most potent in Tibetan symbolism: the dorje (thunderbolt sceptre, symbol of indestructible reality), the phurba (ritual dagger, destroyer of obstacles), and the dharma wheel (the Buddha's teaching set in motion). A dzi bearing these implements is understood to carry their combined power: subduing spiritual obstacles, cutting through delusion, and supporting meditation and progress on the path. The non-repeating composition reflects the all-encompassing nature of Guru Rinpoche's activity, understood in Tibetan tradition as present in every direction. This motif does not stop at the edge of one face and restart on the next. It keeps going, all the way around.
