The end caps on this bead are brick-red — and they reach you before the eyes do.

Most dzi beads present their end caps as a neutral or matching tone: an extension of the body, a boundary without comment. This bead's end caps are a deep, saturated brick-red — more red than the warm mahogany-brown of the body, more red than the terracotta-orange of the motif lines. They announce themselves. Once you register them, the full colour story of this bead comes into focus: every element is in the same warm red-orange-brown family, and every element is a distinct shade within it. Body, motif, end caps — related but separate, a three-tone palette built entirely from the warmest end of the agate spectrum.

The bead measures 39.2mm × 13.9mm. At 13.9mm in diameter, this is the widest two-eye bead in the collection — wider than At-052526-2E5 (13.0mm), At-092724-2EBS (13.0mm), and At-033126-2E4 (12.8mm). The body form is a full, generous ovoid barrel — not sharply tapered but broadly rounded, with a substantial presence in hand. The ground colour is warm mahogany-brown: a reddish, deeply warm brown that sits clearly apart from the cool chocolate-brown of the wave & stripe bead or the near-pitch-black of the six-eye beads. This is agate with red in its geology, and that red comes through at every level.

The motif lines are a warm terracotta-orange — distinctly more reddish and saturated than the sandy-cream of most two-eye beads, yet less golden than the honey-gold of the six eye bead. It is its own colour: burnt-orange with a clay warmth to it. Against the mahogany-brown ground, it reads with clarity and depth rather than high contrast — a warm-on-warm composition that rewards close examination more than it announces itself from across the room.

Both eyes are fully closed concentric compositions: an outer ring, an inner ring, and a solid dark pupil at centre. Each eye occupies one main face of the bead, with the connector/scroll faces between them carrying flowing, organic terracotta-orange lines — not geometric stripes but curving wave-like forms that follow the agate's own surface energy. The surface throughout has a matte-to-satin finish: not glassy or polished, but the natural, slightly softened surface of agate that has aged without aggressive buffing. This finish, combined with the visible micro-pitting on the connector faces and the worn ridge texture visible in Image 4, places the bead comfortably within its 200–300 year age estimate.

The listing's original text notes that minor bloodspots are present on this bead — not prominent enough to classify it as a bloodspot dzi, and not warranting the bloodspot price tier. They are visible under close examination in Image 4 as small warm inclusions within the darker ground zone of the bottom connector face. We disclose this fully and photograph it exactly as it is.

The Two Eye (雙眼 / 二眼) Motif

The Two Eye dzi — mig nyis in Tibetan — represents duality held in perfect balance: two partners, two forces, two perspectives brought into harmony. It is the bead most associated with relational wellbeing — between partners at home, between colleagues at work, between the self and the world it navigates. The fully closed eye, as seen on both faces of this bead, is understood in the dzi tradition as the eye that has arrived: complete, resolved, and whole in its awareness. Two such eyes together make this a bead of settled, assured harmony — not a bead of seeking, but one of having found. The warm red-orange palette of this particular piece adds a quality of vitality and warmth to the motif's traditional meaning: this is harmony with heat in it.
