The body of this bead is pitch-black — and then, at both ends, it turns brown.

The transition happens at the drill-end caps: the pitch-black of the main body gives way to a warm dark brown at each tip, set off by the cream end-cap stripe that marks the boundary between the two zones. It is the stone's own internal colour doing this — the agate shifts from its very deepest tone through the body to a warmer, richer brown where the material meets the drill. The effect is visible from both ends and gives the bead a two-zone character that reads clearly in the hand.

Against the pitch-black body, the five eyes sit in a 3+2 split: three on the primary face, two on the reverse, each one a concentric cream ring against the deep black ground, high-contrast and bold. The side faces carry a wave band with a bracket element above it — a simpler, more architectural composition than the layered three-row wave of the companion piece, the open space of the pitch-black ground making each cream line read with full clarity. The surface across the body shows very minor natural micro-surface pitting within the dark zones — small natural marks in the agate, disclosed here in full.

The form is fusiform at 56.3mm, slightly shorter and narrower than its companion. The surface is uniformly high-gloss. No cracks and no chips are visible in any photo. I independently confirm both. No bloodspot inclusions are visible at the resolution provided.

The Five Eye Motif

The five eye dzi (五眼天珠) carries associations with the Five Dhyani Buddhas — Vairocana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi — and with the five directions of space, extending protection to all cardinal points and the centre simultaneously. Wearing a five-eye dzi is understood to invite the blessings of all five buddha families and to support movement toward the full realisation of awakened mind. The pitch-black ground is the classic colour register for dzi of the highest visual contrast, the cream eyes reading with maximum clarity against the deep ground.
