Five Eye Motif, 40.5×11.4mm, very dark brown agate (N-091025-5E)

This bead splits its five eyes unevenly — two on one face, three on the other — and a wave pattern fills the turn between them.

This is a new Taiwan-crafted dzi bead in natural agate, carrying the Five Eye motif in bold cream-white lines against a very deep dark brown ground. The ground reads close to black in flat light but carries a faint warm brown undertone at the edges where it meets the cream lines — confirmed from the white-background photographs. The cream-white eye rings and dividing bars are crisp and evenly proportioned, with strong contrast against the dark field.

The five eyes are not arranged on a single face. One face carries two eye rings flanked by vertical divider bars; the opposite face carries three eye rings in a row, also bordered by dividers. Between these two faces, a third rotation reveals a continuous wave or zigzag band running the length of the bead — a transitional motif zone that connects the two eye groupings as the bead turns. Held and rotated in the hand, the composition shifts continuously: two eyes, then waves, then three eyes, then waves again, the full pattern only revealing itself across a complete turn.

The form is a standard barrel with gently tapered, rounded ends. The drill holes are visible in Images 6 and 7 — standard size, clean, with a warm honey-brown end cap surround that lightens gradually from the dark body of the bead. The surface is smooth and well-finished throughout. No cracks or chips are present — this is my own observation from all six photo angles.

The Five Eye Motif

The five eye dzi is associated with the blessings of Kuvera, the deity of wealth and guardian of the northern direction in both Hindu and Buddhist tradition. The five eyes are said to channel sustained good fortune, longevity, and contentment to the wearer — five being a number connected to the five elements and the five directions in Himalayan cosmology. Combined with the wave motif on the alternating face, this bead carries both the static accumulation symbolism of the eyes and the flowing, continuous quality associated with water and movement, suggesting fortune that is not only attracted but kept in motion.
